The Szegedi Family Story
Szegedis Catering was founded in Dearborn Heights, MI in 1978 when John & Patricia Segedi took a risk and cashed in their life savings to open the catering business at 5704 N Telegraph Road. Through their hard work and passion for providing amazing food and service, we have remained family owned and operated by three generations for over 36 years. Even the fourth generation great-grandchildren are getting old enough to help out!
With hundreds of years of combined experience and having catered almost every type of event throughout the Metro Detroit area, you can be sure that no matter what size or type of party you are having, we are here to serve you.
JOHN "Cookie" SEGEDI SR. 1933 - 2011
Born in rural Pennsylvania in 1933, John was one of 13 children. Starting at a young age, he developed a disciplined work ethic. As a young man, John enlisted in the army and became a cook. This is where he learned to cook for thousands of people. After leaving the army, John worked in several private clubs in Michigan developing and honing his culinary skills. In 1963, he became the head chef at Tam O’Shanter Country Club in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Then in 1979, with his entrepreneurial skills and his mother’s favorite recipes, he and his wife Patricia founded Szegedi’s Catering. Currently, John’s three sons; John Jr., Steve, Paul and his grandson Rick, run the business. We are here to service all of your catering needs providing Food With a Touch of Class.
